Longbrake Shields Genealogy

Dr. Thomas Pride Shields
Boy, I have a lot of family and I am always on the hunt for more information, photographs and other documents about them. I like to share!

For this branch of the family Dr. Thomas Pride Shields (1826-1912) seems to be the nexus that started the relationship between the Shields family and the Longbrake family by moving to Millcreek, Union County, Ohio from Cartersville, Virginia in 1867, shortly after the Civil War.

Dr. Shield had 13 children, 4 by his first wife, Martha Carrington Bradley and 9 children by his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Jane Ford. One of his daughters married Mark Faye Longbrake in 1907 in the small town of Watkins, Ohio. My mother was one of their 4 daughters.

This is my first post, but I will have much more information about these families and their relatives such as the Virginia Carringtons, Watkins, Randolphs, Henrys, Mayos, Codringtons and others as well as the Ohio branches such as the Richeys, Dodges, Abbotts, Farnums, Kilgores, Kittweilers and others. Many of the surnames have spelling variation such as Lamb(p)recht became Longbrake or Lambright or Longneck. It is said that all Longbrakes in America are descendants of Daniel Lambrecht (1750-1836).

I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Hi,
Could you contact me? my great great grandfather Cornelius Lipford was from Cumberland co Virginia. (Born in 1847) He moved to Mills creek Ohio around 1867 to work for Doctor Shields. Or he knew him. I am trying to find out information what happened to Cornelius Lipford. Around 1880, Cornelius and his wife and six children moved to Georgia and left Ohio. He did go back to visit Doctor Shields after he moved to Georgia. I found his visit in an union county newspaper. I would love to talk to you.
    Thank you
    Beth Lipford
